Connectivity is a utility.

Never, ever pay for internet connectivity in hotels. Always negotiate free connectivity at the front-desk before check-in – at the same time you are negotiating a better rate. If the hotel offers free WiFi in the lobby, that is probably not sufficient (you can’t work in your underwear in the lobby), so negotiate further. Connectivity is a utility for business travelers and for some other travelers. Be prepared to walk away if the hotel fails to negotiate.
